What is the Quilters Guild
Currently based at Dean Clough, Halifax, West Yorkshire, the Guild will be moving to the beautiful mediaeval St. Anthony's Hall in York. The resource centre which holds examples of historical and contemporary patchwork quilts, an extensive library, videos and study packs will also be moving to York. The resource centre has been awarded full museum status, and for anyone interested in patchwork quilting this is a must for a visit. The hall will also enable the Guild to hold two exhibitions concurrently and education courses.
Providing Support to Local Groups
Apart from this the Guild provides local group support and events through its regional offices. The Guild is divided into eighteen regions run by a co-ordinator and a team of local members who organise events. Within each area a regional day is held, generally once a year, where quilters can attend lectures, go to a sit and sew, and meet traders. There are also 'area days' which are similar to the regional events but smaller and more intimate. Workshops are commonly held along with the regional and area days.
Informative Quarterly Quilting Publication
The national organisation produces a quarterly magazine, 'The Guild', which provides useful information, quilting and patchwork techniques and tips, and details of events. It is packed with beautiful colour photographs of quilts to inspire. A newsletter is also produced by each region.
