Patterns and designs within woven fabrics are created by the weaving of different coloured cotton threads rather than printing onto the cotton itself. This produces a reversible fabric often of stripes or plaids.
Woven fabrics are useful to combine with other printed fabrics in a patchwork quilt instead of a printed blender. Unlike in dressmaking, where stripe and plaids are generally avoided other than by experienced sewers; because in patchwork quilting they can be used in small amounts, they should be considered no matter whether you are a new or an experienced quilter.
As well combining with other printed fabrics in a patchwork block, consider using, for example, stripes, to frame each block or the quilt itself.
