Yellow is a warm and brilliant primary colour which - in its pure and lighter tints - creates a picture of spring daffodils and summer buttercups. Zesty fruits such as pineapples and lemons ripen into beautiful vibrant shades of yellow.
By adding black to yellow various shades of olive can be created. These colours add depth to a quilt with an Autumnal feel. Violet is a complementary colour to yellow, which in nature can be seen in flowers such as pansies and heartsease.
Golden yellow sits next to yellow on the colour wheel. This has an autumnal feel such as chrysanthemums blooming in October and November. Alternatively try golden yellow with aqua blue and Fuchsia for a hot tropical feel.
Also next to yellow on the colour wheel is chartreuse, a yellow hue with a hint of green. Chartreuse can be seen as the colour of leaves, seedpods and seaweed. Dark chartreuse can be used to represent moss and fern for a dark jungle or forest effect.
