A primary colour, red is full of vibrancy and passion as is the full red spectrum, from deep pure red and fiery orange-reds to cool magenta. Red is a colour which will add warmth to your project. A fiery orange-red could work perfectly in the centre of a log cabin design to represent the fire or heart of the home.
Orange-reds can be used to create a tropical feel with vibrant light and deep greens. Reds complementary colour is aqua green which creates a stunning combination. A tropical feel can be created by using a range of shades of these colours.
Orange-red is the colour of vine ripened tomatoes, and strawberries and mixes marvellously with browns and creams. The complementary colour for orange-red is aqua blue which can cool down the heat of the red.
Reds, purples, oranges, burgundy and deep greens and browns create beautiful autumnal quilts, whilst deep bright reds and greens with golds are of course perfect for Christmas. Red can be useful in small amounts to draw the eye to a particular area of the quilt or in abundance to produce a rich, warm creation.
