A secondary colour made by mixing equal parts of yellow and red. Orange used in its pure secondary form on the colour wheel is a bright lively colour. It can be seen in spring and summer flowers and in Autumn leaves; a colour that will add sunshine and vibrancy to your quilt. Shades of orange such as apricot and rust can add quieter, subtle tones.
Orange and turquoise complement each other, the pure orange appearing hot when placed next to the cool turquoise, creating a tropical feel. Orange, green and violet work beautifully combination and can be found in wonderful combinations in some batik prints.
Yellow-orange is a warmer colour than pure orange and can be used with pale browns and rusts for a soft, comforting feel. By adding the coolness of sky blue this combination can be enlivened.
Orange-yellow complements with the ever popular blue and is a common combination to be found in sunsets and sunrises and so will very well together in your project.
