A secondary colour being in its pure form an equal mixture of blue and yellow. Green is the colour - in its various shades and tints - which is dominant in many landscapes from jungles and forests to hills and valleys and so can be a good foundation colour or background for many projects.
Soft green tints tell of spring and new foliage whilst the rich dark green shades tell of late Summer where deep green foliage emphasises the colours of full blossomed flowers. Very dark green reflects winter and evergreen trees. The complementary colour to green is magenta, which when used together makes a striking combination.
Yellow greens are mainly seen in nature, in forest and other landscapes. The complementary colour to yellow green is purple, which again can be used to striking effect in a colour scheme.
Spring greens - also known as grass greens - have a mild hint of yellow. These shades include mint and salad greens. Refreshing and cool vegetables and fruits such as cucumbers and grapes, green apples and greengages fall within the spring green arena. Blue greens reflect the cool colours of shade loving plants, sea grass and the deep ocean.
