This is one of the 'chequerboard' patterns to be found in the 'Pompeii' collection by Sue Zipkin.

The colours used to make up the tiles or squares of the design include sky blue, cornflower blue, royal blue, sage and grass green. The tiles give the appearance of being painted on by hand and the overall effect is that of a watercolour design using cool tints. Each tile is approximately a quarter of an inch square.

The cool blues within the fabric will add contrast to the warmer yellows and pinks to be found in other 'Pompeii' designs. The colours also lend themselves to blues and greens in projects with an ocean or sea shore theme. It can be comfortably used to create a narrow or wide border or edging for a quilt and on its own will make cool, fresh feel soft furnishings.
